Training Log 1/11/2026-1/17/2026

Intensified my running by adding a few extra miles. I will gradually increase my miles over the next couple of weeks, heading toward those challenging 100-mile weeks of fun. I will be doing fewer gym workouts due to time constraints and unexpected family responsibilities related to my dad’s health issues.
I will be sharing small life events and thoughts here on Substack for those who choose to follow my journey, because they went out of their way to do so. I will try to post a little something at the end of each weekly calendar for everyone to read.

On Tuesday, after visiting my dad at Renown Hospital, I was driving along Mill Street and had a moment of reflection. I was behind a school bus full of elementary-aged kids, and they started waving at me from the back. Without really thinking, I waved back to them, and then it turned into a waving game all the way down Mill Street between us until I took the on-ramp for 395 south. As I kept driving back to my parents’ house to care for the animals, I thought about those kids being young and just starting out in life, just as I had just left my dad, who is nearing the end of his. It’s these small moments that impact all of us, but sometimes we don’t pause to enjoy them or learn from them.
Memento Mori.
