Training Log 2/22/2026-2/28/2026
A whole bunch of traveling this week, with getting back from Merced, CA, and going to Kauai for a little vacation. The old problem leg is feeling good to go after a long time away from the gym. I went on Tuesday and paid the price for doing my typical leg day. The day after was a reminder of a good leg day at the gym with that good old pain of building new muscle. I will be in Hawaii next week and hope to report back on some cool trail running and hiking in my next post. Pictures coming soon.

I’m in Kauai right now, on the southern side of the island in Poipu at Shipwreck Beach, looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Sitting here late on a Saturday night, watching people enjoy themselves felt like my own little moment of joy. Let me tell you what I saw because it was pretty amazing. In the distance, cliff jumpers were leaping into a rough ocean. My older self worried about their safety, but my younger self wanted to run up and check it out. Nearby, a small group of surfers were riding 4-5 foot waves that kept pushing them back onto the beach. They seemed less risky than the jumpers, for sure. Michelle was standing ankle-deep in the water, staring out at what she called the “edge of the world.” A professional photographer was taking glamour shots of a young couple, and another was capturing a family with a toddler, using the endless ocean and the famous cliff as their backdrop. I also noticed two people wandering around the beach near one of the photographers, completely unaware they were photo bombing the scene. There were still many beachgoers doing their thing, but it wasn’t overcrowded. Up on another cliff, the condominiums held more people like me, enjoying everything happening in that small slice of the world.
It’s great to just sit quietly, take in the world around you, and enjoy the moment.
