This week is one of those when you start to doubt yourself, with the right foot banged up. With my first race about 5 weeks away and having to shut down completely from running, it really messes with your mind. With almost 500 miles on my feet in the last month, there is no doubt what the cause was. Pushing my body these last few months finally took its toll, and it is an absolutely devastating feeling that I might have to pull out of my 100k race in a month. I am trying a few tricks to recover quickly, but who knows, with my job that requires quite a bit of walking 5 days a week, whether I will be able to get this fixed in time.
This is the side of doing hard things that most people do not talk about. They tend to share only the fun parts, not the downsides of pushing your body to its limits. But the problem-solving you have to work through to be ready for the hard things is the most work. This is one of those times when you just hope for the best, know that it is not the end, and instead use it as a building block for the future.
Don’t be discouraged because of a setback.
